Hank Smith: 00:12 And we do a weekly little a little snippet called followHIM Favorites, where we just take the lesson, the come follow me lesson this week and just pick out our favorites. So, John, the lesson this week is in Doctrine and Covenants sections 51 through 57. You only get to pick one ’cause it’s followHIM favorite. Maybe followHIM favorites if you’re feeling, you know, if you’re feeling like you gotta do more than one. But go ahead and tell us what your following favorite is for this lesson.

John Bytheway: 00:41 Well, Hank there’s so many sections in here, but I had some that I actually marked as a teenager because my last name seems to be in eight different verses in section 52 . And there are all these mission calls and it says, let them preach by the way, verse 10. Let them go two by two, thus let them preach by the way. And then you go to the other page, or you scroll down to verses 22, 23, 25, 26. And it all talks about preaching, by the way. And, I used to just think that was cool ’cause it was kind of like my last name, the prepositional phrase. But the message is, don’t wait till you get to your mission field and then start preaching. Preach on the way. Preach by the way, wherever you are, don’t let your testimony be too hard to detect. And there may be chances all the time in normal and natural ways to say, I love my church. It makes me so happy. And you can preach, by the way. And I think I wanna do that not only ’cause my name is in here, but because what a great way to be that I’m a missionary all the time. Not just waiting until I get some formal call, but I can preach the gospel, by the way, wherever I happen to be going, I can preach by the way. I like that.

Hank Smith: 01:52 Oh, I love that. It might today say like, buy the Insta or buy the Facebook. Right. Along the way, preach the gospel. Yeah, by the text. Yeah. There’s all sorts of ways, not just by the way, but there’s all sorts of ways for us to preach the gospel. I I was looking for Smith in the Doctrine and Covenants. It was hard to find though. I couldn’t find many.

John Bytheway: 02:12 Yeah, there’s not a whole lot of Hanks, but there’s a lot of Smiths.

Hank Smith: 02:15 There’s quite a few Smiths along the way. Can you imagine, Hank? Alright, so, my followHIM Favorite is actually in the next section, section 53. It’s a very simple one where the Lord says, I was crucified for the sins of the world. So, I’m gonna give you a commandment. And what’s that commandment? Forsake the world. And the idea of forsake is give up. I did a talk a a number of years ago. It was called Breakup with the World. And the idea is that you and the world have to make a break, right? You’ve gotta say, you know what? It’s not me. It’s you. You are not good for me, and right? You have got to…well, there’s another one. It was like, welcome to dumpsville. Population: you, right? The idea is you’ve gotta break up with the world.

03:05 And I think the Lord wants us to. The Lord is saying, why? Why are you so…? Why do you have one foot in Zion and the other foot in the world? Right? What do you think you’re missing out on there? I want to give you these blessings. I want to give you these experiences, but you gotta, you know, standing in holy places takes two feet. You gotta get over here on my side. So, I always am thinking, to myself personally, what is something–what’s probably the most worldly thing in my life that I could forsake and replace it with something more holy? It could be music, could be a television show. Could be you know, anything where you think that’s probably not in the–that’s probably in the strength of Satan pamphlet.

03:52 I should probably get rid of that and replace it with something holy. So I hope that you–those listening can say, you know what? I’m gonna, if the Lord was crucified for the sins of the world, I can sacrifice something something worldly for Him and just keep doing it.
